Belgrade, Serbia – My wife (on the right) and our friend with her baby, walking in the park. Autumn of this year is beautiful! This is also the first published image on this site that was made with my new Canon 7D camera!

7D! How do you like it compared to your Olympus E-30? I assume you switched because of Oly’s unclear commitment to the Four-Thirds system going forward.

Yes, that’s correct Felix, a bit of shock. :) But with Oly saying they will not develop new 4/3 lenses and ridiculously high-price of E5 with its lower specs, I have decided to call it a day.
So far I like Canon 7D very much. Compared to my E-30 it’s much more advanced in every way. From the overall feel, the ergonomics, LCD, interactive AF, functions, commands… The camera really utilises 18mpix, the quality of detail is extreme. CDAF is about 3x faster than E-30 and works with every lens! And that beautiful full-hd movie mode. I wasn’t a fan of motion picture before, but it’s very convenient when you have a child!

There’s one particular thing that I especially like – I feel my photographs have more “glow” now. I think that’s because of the lens I use (50mm f1.4) that has extremely shallow DOF and higher dynamic range. The subjects really *pop* out with lovely colours, having that airy effect that I just couldn’t produce on Oly with 14-54 at f2.8.

Can’t say I blame you for switching. Oly seemed to have so much momentum in early 2009, releasing both the E30 and E620, I’m very disappointed it’s come to this. The Pens are still very consumer-oriented, and I think there’s definitely a big gap to be filled between the EPL-1 and the E5. We’ll see what the company does going forward, but as a remaining 4/3′s user, I’m not feeling that optimistic. Still, I have a lot invested in the system and it doesn’t make financial sense for me to switch right now … so I’ll use my existing gear until it dies from overwork. ;)

That said, I’m very glad you enjoy your Canon 7D. It looks like a fantastic camera. Definitely, the specs sound great … I’m jealous that you get to shoot video! The Canon 50mm f1.4 is a very good lens … may I ask what other lenses you are shooting with? Post more: I want to see more results! It’ll give me frame of reference when it comes time for me to switch from Olympus …

I agree with you. You have recently bought few great lenses (Leica f1.4 included!) and E620. Selling it right away would be hard to justify! E620 is still great little camera!

The EF 50mm f1.4 is the only lens I currently own! When I used Oly, 40-50mm (80-100mm equiv.) were my most used focal lengths, so 50mm on Canon (80mm equiv.) was the obvious choice. Plus, shallow DOF is something I wanted loooong ago! My plan is to buy EF-S 15-85mm IS f3.5-5.6 zoom (got extremely good reviews) and EF 70-200L f4 IS. After that, EF 100mm f2.8 macro and I’m done. :)

My friend has 70-200L f2.8. I played with it for a while and was blown away with the image quality and performance.

    Thanks, stay tuned! :)
